This year’s virtual 25 Mile Challenge takes place from 1st to 31st October 2024. Here we've provided some answers to common questions for those who are taking part in the challenge, or considering signing up:
About the challenge
What is the 25 Mile Challenge? How does it work?
The 25 Mile Challenge is an opportunity to get active and fundraise for Greenpeace between 1 - 31st October 2024. It’s a virtual fitness and fundraising challenge, for you to complete in your own time in your local area. You’ll use your personal fundraising page to ask friends and family to sponsor you for taking part, helping to raise vital funds for Greenpeace.
You can tailor the challenge your way: walk, run, swim or wheel 25 miles, in a month, a week or a day – just be sure to complete your miles before the 31st October 2024.
You can also link in with a whole community of people taking part in the challenge. Join our Facebook community group to chat with other challenge participants, share photos and get support from Greenpeace.
How do I sign up/register?
Registration is easy! It only takes a minute. Simply enter your details on our registration form. This will automatically set up your very own fundraising page. Don’t forget to customise your fundraising page, including adding a profile pic, if you want to.
Once you’ve raised £10 in sponsorship, we’ll send you an email with instructions on how to claim your T-shirt – keep an eye out for this over the coming weeks! (Please note: the T-shirt and welcome pack are optional.)
Registration will close at midnight on Thursday 31st October.
Fundraising pages will close at midnight on Thursday 14th November.
Can I sign up as a group/team?
Yes, we welcome team registrations – the more the merrier!
To create a new team:
Each team member will need to register individually. Then, you can either:
- Create a new team when registering, after entering your personal information. Make sure to select Yes under Allow anyone to join my team, otherwise others won’t be able to join. Or;
- Create a new team on the CREATE A TEAM page of your fundraiser dashboard at any point. Just login to your dashboard to view this option.
Can children register and fundraise?
Young people are very welcome to take part in this challenge, but under-18s will need a parent or guardian's consent. For safeguarding reasons, only an adult over the age of 18 can register for a fundraising page, order a T-shirt and join the Facebook group.
Once you’ve raised £10 in sponsorship, you will have the option to order a kids' T-shirt in your welcome pack, instead of an adult T-shirt, if you prefer.
Do I need to be based in the UK to take part?
We welcome participants from all over the world to take part in the 25 Mile Challenge. The more, the merrier! However, unfortunately, we can only mail T-shirts and welcome packs to UK addresses due to the cost of postage and customs charges.
How do I get a free challenge T-shirt and activity poster?
Once you’ve raised £10 in sponsorship on your fundraising page, we’ll send you an email with instructions for how to claim your T-shirt and welcome pack. Alternatively, if you’ve already raised £10, navigate to the Claim T-shirt tab on your fundraising dashboard and click on the Claim Your Free T-shirt button.
Complete the T-shirt claim form as soon as possible after you’ve raised your first £10. Your T-shirt and welcome pack should arrive within two weeks of you filling out the welcome pack order form.
In your welcome pack, you will receive a welcome letter, 1 x ‘Protect What You Love’ T-shirt, an activity poster, and a set of stickers for tracking your progress. You can choose either an adult or kids' T-shirt. We offer a wide range of T-shirt sizes, from XS to 5XL for adults, or ages 3-4 up to ages 11-12 for kids.
How should we track our walks/miles?
You can track your miles in various ways!
We encourage you to log your miles on the My Fitness Activity tab in your fundraising dashboard. This will allow your friends and family to see your progress as you complete the challenge.
Follow these steps to manually add your activity:
- Log in to your account and select My Fitness Activity.
- Under Add activity, enter the required fields.
- The logged activity will now appear on your fundraising page.
Alternatively, if you’re using a fitness app like Garmin, MapMyFitness or FitBit, you can link your fitness app to your fundraising page, and your progress will be tracked automatically.
If you start tracking your miles before the start of the challenge on 1st October, please note that these will reset to 0 at midnight on Monday 30th September. This is so we can accurately track how many miles are travelled overall during our challenge month of October.
Once you’ve raised at least £10 on your fundraising page, we will also send you a welcome pack which contains an activity poster and stickers. Stick the poster to your fridge and add a sticker to the poster for each mile you walk. Please remember to recycle the poster once you’re done!
How do I connect a fitness app?
If you track your workouts with Fitbit, MapMyFitness or Garmin, you can link your fitness app to your 25 Mile Challenge account, so your distances will be automatically added to your activity tracker from 1st October 2024.
Follow these steps to set up your fitness app, in preparation for the start of the challenge:
- Download the Fitbit, MapMyFitness or Garmin app and log into your fitness app account.
- Log in to your 25 Mile Challenge fundraising dashboard.
- Navigate to the My Fitness Activity tab.
- Under the heading Connect your preferred fitness app, click your chosen app.
- Follow the prompts to connect your fitness app account.
- When you next work out, select start your workout in the app on your phone. Once you end your workout, click save and your distance will be published to the activity tracker on your fundraising page the following day.
If you have synced your app already but it is not working, please log in and reconnect it.
- Fitbit: You must start an activity and save it. If no activity is logged, then your cumulative activity will sync at the end of the day. If you are having issues, try syncing through BOTH your Fitbit and the Fitbit app on your smartphone.
- MapMyFitness: You must start your workout, stop your workout and then SAVE your workout.
- Garmin: You must start your workout, stop your workout and then SAVE your workout.
Your activity tracker will be updated each day with the previous day’s distances.
Can I do a shorter/longer/earlier/later challenge?
Yes! Every mile you complete will help Greenpeace fight climate change, and protect vital habitats like oceans and forests. So do this challenge in whatever way works best for you, whether that’s taking on a shorter distance, starting early, or finishing after 31st October 2024. Every mile is very much appreciated!

How do I set up a fundraising page?
Simply enter your details on our registration form. It only takes a minute! This will automatically set up your very own fundraising page. Don’t forget to customise your fundraising page, including adding a profile pic, if you want to.
Where is my fundraising page? How do I find it?
You can access your fundraising page by logging into your fundraising dashboard using the email address and password that you used to set up your account. At the top of your dashboard, there is a white box containing a URL. This is the link for your fundraising page. Click the green View button to visit your fundraising page.
If you have forgotten your password, simply click the Forgot password? link on the login page, and you will be sent an email with instructions to reset your password.
Fundraising pages will close at midnight on Thursday 14th November.
What is my fundraising dashboard? How do I find it?
Your fundraising dashboard is an area that’s only visible to you. It’s where you can edit your public fundraising page, create a team, log your fitness activity, see your donations, claim your T-Shirt, and access our fundraising resources.
To find it, login here. Alternatively, login to your account on this website at any time, then hover over your account name at the top of the page and click Dashboard in the drop-down menu.
Fundraising pages will close at midnight on Thursday 14th November.
Can I set up a Facebook or JustGiving fundraising page?
For this year’s 25 Mile Challenge, we are not using external donation platforms, like Facebook or JustGiving.
When registering for the event, a fundraising page will automatically be set up for you on this website. We strongly recommend that you use this website, so we can see your donation total (and send you a free T-shirt when you hit £10!) and so your donations link through to our leaderboards and the overall fundraising total.
If you have started collecting donations on a Facebook or JustGiving fundraiser, and would like to transfer these to your main fundraising page (on this website), please get in contact with our Supporter Services team and we’ll be happy to help. Head over to our Contact Us page for details on how to get in touch.
Is there a fundraising target?
You can set your own personal fundraising target when you register and set up your fundraising page.
For this year’s 25 Mile Challenge, we are hoping to collectively raise £150,000. To help us achieve this, we recommend you set your personal fundraising target to at least £100.
Don’t be afraid to ask friends and family for sponsorship – you’re doing something amazing, and they will be happy to support you!
You can change your fundraising target at any time. To do this, follow these steps:
- Navigate to your fundraising dashboard
- Click Edit My Page
- In the Update Your 25 Mile Challenge Fundraising Page section at the top of this page, change the target amount in the Fundraising Target * box
- Click Update Details (green button)
Where can I find fundraising tips and support?
As a first port of call, we recommend checking out the fundraiser resources on your fundraising dashboard. We’ve created some social media graphics for you to share online, as well as some email templates so you can easily reach out to friends and family to let them know you’re taking part.
Here are some other top tips to help you get started:
- Share the link to your fundraising page with your family and friends.
- Add your fundraising page link to your work email signature.
- Post your fitness progress on your fundraising page activity tracker.
What should I do if I receive offline donations (i.e. cash)?
Once you have collected your sponsorship money you can:
- Post a cheque – made payable to Greenpeace Ltd – to Supporter Services, Greenpeace, Canonbury Villas, London, N1 2PN.
- You can also donate the sponsorship money via your fundraising dashboard. Navigate to My Donations and click on the green Add Offline Donation button.
My friend’s donation isn't showing up on my fundraiser?
There will be a short delay before most donations appear on your fundraising page. Please get in contact with our Supporter Services team if an expected donation still isn't showing within 48 hours. Head over to our Contact Us page for details on how to get in touch.
After the walking, running, swimming, or wheeling part of the challenge is over on 31st October, there's still plenty of time to fundraise! Your fundraising page will remain open for two weeks, and close on at midnight on Thursday 14th November, for you to collect any remaining donations.
